Owners
The journey began when Hal White, a passionate beer enthusiast with farm-life dreams, crossed paths with Chris Wallin, a city girl with a love for fine wines. In 2009, they invested in a picturesque property in Madison County, Virginia, setting the stage for something special.
With a shared vision of creating a farm winery, Hal and Chris began planting grapes and building the foundation for what would become their family-run venture. Their hard work and dedication led to the opening of the Tasting and Tap Room on July 13, 2019—a warm, welcoming space designed for guests to enjoy wine, handcrafted beer and the beauty of the mountains.
Today, after years of growth and evolution, Shotwell Run Brewing Co. is proudly run by Hal, Chris, and their son Harold. Together, they continue to uphold their commitment to quality, hospitality, and the family spirit at the heart of everything they do.
Dogs
Maggie, our black and white Sheltie, is full of energy and loves to play ball and run with the kids in our wide open spaces. She is very friendly and loves affection, always ready to greet visitors with a wagging tail. As the resident Tasting and Tap Room dog, Maggie will often bark to let both people and other dogs know she’s here to welcome them! Casey, our tri-color sheltie passed away (aged 14) in December of 2020. Merlin, our blue merle sheltie passed away (aged 16) in May of 2024. Both leaving Maggie in charge of all dog duties in the Tasting and Tap Room which include greeting customers, rounding up children, and cleaning up food scraps under all the tables.
